Editing of Books: PC Gone Mad?

No way VAG would do such stupid thing.
I had a new model A4 loaner a few months back and was frankly staggered at the pedal offset. The clutch pedal was literally in line with the steering column! Obviously this is due to some problem getting the linkage closer to the central tunnel on the RHD models and I'm aware that we often get more pronounced offsets than LHD models but this seemed ridiculous to me and felt very unnatural or uncomfortable.

just a post from the net. Many more examples there

The publishers should publish the books in normal and woke form, then see which sell better.

It is not about "wokery", nor commercial success.

It is the double-edged sword of sensitivity, and having a complete knowledge of what went before.

"Those who do not know their history are doomed to repeat it" sort of thing.

It’s all a way to make it more valuable and in demand.

Old copies go up as original, new copies get bought out of intrigue. Penguin get free PR

Pat Nevin (ex footballer) was on Debate Night last night, think of it as a Scottish Question Time. A question came up about removing certain words from past literature e.g. Roald Dahl. Pat is currently writing a book and advised he's been asked by the publishers to change a few words/phrases. He gave the example of a passage that read something like 'the boardmen then had a decision to make.' The publishers advised him 'can you please change that to boardmen and women.' Pat replied 'but there weren't any women there?' The publishers stance remained, advising him it would be considered inappropriate to refer only to men and not women.

Yep, and people try to tell us the world isn't going mad.

The Oxford Uni debating chamber recently had a debate (for and against) asserting that in years to come, gender will no longer be of any relevance and will be ignored as a concept.

The sad thing is, it's probably true. As I've said before, I'm 50. So I maybe have 25-35 years left. So pleased I'm not young now, I dread to think where all this is going.

There was a bit of a furore in the news recently about Bob Geldof not addressing Sam Smith in a non-gender way apparently.
Everyone was 'fuming', according to the report, because the presenters of the programme, (think it was that willoby woman and some bloke. I don't know because I don't watch daytime tv), didn't pull Geldof up over it.
Why should they? This Sam Smith bloke has got a mouth of his own. If he wasn't being called by the word(s) he wanted to be used, then open your own mouth and politely ask to be referred to in that manner. If the person doens't use them then simply walk away. FFS!
