eek! here we go.

Not worth getting in a tizz over something thats so much trouble with so few benefits.
Life's not worth the hassle mate.

Bit like Internet Explorer. As soon as you get the latest version, before long you're being bombarded to upgrade to the next version. If you were happy with the previous version, why keep changing. When you spend an eternity downloading this week's version and configuring it to be as similar to the settings on the previous version - then it all goes pear-shaped. Maybe it's because I'm cack-handed with technology.

Ignore all the calls to continually upgrade. I only upgrade programmes like IE when my version becomes so outdated that certain websites become unusable and don't support it. If it ain't broke..........

Then simply take it back or dump it.

I'll tell you what I'd like for Windows 9, 10 or whatever - a computer that boots up in a couple of seconds. I'm really not interested in frills.

That google laptop for £300 claims to do this.

David Cameron claims he is running the country.
Into the ground maybe.

apparently if you dual boot 7 and 8 at the same time it works fine.......

get me with the I.T. lingo

Trying to figure out how wearing different sized boots can help with your computer!

Just put it into hibernate/hybrid sleep mode when you turn it off. And get rid of all the junk that thinks it has the right to load itself when you boot up.

The really impressive thing about Windows is that you can cobble up any old PC with hardware from every junk yard and car boot sale in the world and you are almost guaranteed that windows will install on it and it will work.

Sounds good, but if you leave it in hibernate for a couple of days, is the battery likely to go flat?

You should let your battery run out completely from time to time anyway to enable it to fully recharge properly. But don't you use your PC every day?

You know I do! It was a hypothetical situation.

Nevertheless, my ideal computer/OS would allow me to turn my computer on and find my desktop open and ready to use instantly. Although that is unlikely to happen any time soon, I do think they could offer a very basic version of Windows without any frills and to which you could add only the extras you want. That's probably more easily said than done, though!
