Elections

The numbers coming up aren't the full story really. The final answer is changes in which parties controls councils. That is the aspect that matters. Currently the numbers are just something for the news to spend hours talking about it. These changes can be an indication of how things will work out eventually but only an indication.

I suspect I will be punished by a a libDem council win, installing more pointless speed bumps and 20mph limits everywhere.
We have endured limp Dumbs for decades, can't drive or park in a lot of places without risking a fine, it would be nice if they tried to keep streets and parks tidy, but no, they'd rather spend the money on more yellow paint and ticket machines for park car parks. The streets seem filthier just after the dustmen have been. I should report them for fly tipping or littering, but our council seem reluctant to prosecute fly tippers.

N Ireland sounds interesting. It seems one party will only power share if they get the most votes which so far they have. Sounds like there is a chance they wont now.

Or maybe the story isn't correct, perhaps it concerns one individual rather than a whole party.

I don't understand why but most people don't (or can't) differentiate between national and local voting in terms of what they are voting for. And the general media are even worse.
It's a slightly contentious thing to say, however I'd assert many folk don't know that much about politics and political parties in general.

We never hear anything about their policies!!!
Have you gone on their websites to see what their policies are?
Emmm ...

My dad voted <insert party here>, his dad voted the same and his dad before him. I'll be doing likewise!
So you're confident <insert party here> has the best policies?
Emmm ...

Tbh I don't know much about politics. My partner votes <insert party here> so I'll probably just do likewise.

Our local council is a joke!
Who are your local councillor's? Have you contacted them to complain?
Emmm ...

Fair point.

I grew up in the Home Counties, nearly everybody I knew was a Telegraph reader and Tory voter.

Come next general election, I do wonder how many lifetime Labour voters that leant their vote to the Tories will take it back ...

Lib Dem’s are very successful in local politics.
They are the electoral equivalent of the supplier invited to tender to beat up the incumbent supplier.

Tory voters vote libdem in local elections to keep the conservatives focused. Just like the excited supplier invited to tender, who gets all happy with the attention, they have no chance of closing that big deal.

I cannot imagine the state of this country, had labour won the last election.

Sir K seems to have some trouble ahead.

I was expecting an announcement Monday but they obviously decided to wait until after the local elections.

Gotcha...

"Following the receipt of significant new information over recent days, Durham Constabulary has reviewed that position and now, following the conclusion of the pre-election period, we can confirm that an investigation into potential breaches of Covid-19 regulations relating to this gathering is now being conducted."

Oh I don't know - stick a pin in a list. Pick any one from 357.

A random lottery then, is that what you're suggesting they do? Or some form of mass acupuncture to see if any of them have at least some feeling left in them?

Why not?

Robert Jenrick, it is then.:D
