England V Portugal

i have to wholehertadly agree with alan shearers comment about what wayne rooney should do to ronaldo in the dressing room. If he hadnt of interfered it would have been a yellow. I think that thats been one of the worst things to appear in this world cup, players trying to influence the ref to book players and demanding cards

i would agree with that aswell, i didnt notice the kick in the *******s and i dont think the ref was gonna take any action until he pushed ronaldo, thats what i think he sent him off for.I support united and this little prick (ronaldo) should be launched and fergie should stick with van the man.hes out for himself and i think will not be at old trafford next year.

Recriminations are going to start and maybe Rooney was foolish and the players didn't peform, but the buck has to stop with the planking wonker Svenis...how can one man get so little from such talented players - he's well overrated.

Maybe easy to comment with hindsight, but he caused a lot of his own problems. Why even take Walcott if he never uses him especially when he had opportunities to. Rooney and Owen were not fully fit and both risks to last the whole tournament, so even if he does take Walcott, why not take Defoe or Bent instead of Jenas?

Svenis made some terrible decisions and even if England would've won it'd have been in spite of him. Should've had Hiddink or Wenger (though I'd not be happy him leaving the Gooners  ) who can inspire the very best out of the resources they have.

Agree with you Thermo - Ronaldo should've even got a yellow before the kick off (if that's possible) for the dig at Rooney - he knew Rooney has a short fuse and wound him up...for such a talented footballer its a shame. jbonding, I hope Ronaldo stays at ManU...would be great for team morale (other teams anyway  )

To be fair, others have acted unsportingly throughout the tournament and refs or FIFA not done much about it - Crouch's goal was dreadful ;)

We deffo need off field tv based support for the referee.. It would catch some of the 'off the ball' antics.
I saw the prematch Ronaldo stunt ... Also the wink to a team mate as he walked away from the Rooney send off .. No more than a Yellow offence compared to plenty I have witnessed.
I must also say technically the goalkeepers are not being forced to play the rules at penalty kicks. They should not leave their line until the ball has been kicked ... Got it on video? run slowly and watch, at least a stride forward before boot hits ball... ( no excuse for a pro to miss.)
I also have witnessed penalties being ordered retaken due to the 'taker' pausing or taking 'stuttering strides' before strike .. Ronaldo's kick? Is that now allowed? It certainly used not to be.
Old Greavsie was the man for sending goal keeper the wrong way, with just a dip of the shoulder .. he did not miss many.

I really felt the potential was there this time - of all the World Cups.. No plan and no viable strategy that I could see.
:D :D

Just remember it's not the winning, it's the taking part that's important.

I understand Ronaldo do not get on with any of the Man Utd players and regular have bust up in the dressing room. It will be interesting to see what will happen now at Man Utd.

But of course.
Should I recall the fleet, currently en route to bombard the Portugeesers?
:D :D :D

taking cole off and bringing carragher on to settle for a penalty shootout was madness given england's past record in shootout's and the reputation of ricardo as a penalty saver, they should've brought on walcott and all options changed to go for a late goal or extra time goal but just settling on the hope of winning a shootout was a big mistake by sven. glad he's going in a way.

he'll go to real madrid

Walcott is a waste of space. If he's not good enough to play for Arsenal - then why would he be good enough to play for England?

may not be as good as some but what alternatives for that game? he should have gone for an all out attack rather than settledv for the draw especially in the closing minutes of normal time england looked like they might snatch a last minute goal but were lacking the finish.

He's never even played a Premiership game - he's a nobody.

He came on as a sub once and never got near the ball. They soon realised that he couldn't play and left him out from then on.

10 men cannot hope to beat 11 when the better team has 11. If you go all-out for a goal - they'll hit you on the break - game over.
