EU Plug & Adapter Alternative

I have recently purchased a hoover which came with an EU plug and UK adapter. Unfortunately a UK charging cable is not available. The hoover has a charging bracket which is wall mounted. I'm trying to work out the best way to mount and connect it to the supply. I really don't want to have a socket, adapter & charger all sticking out.

Can anyone suggest an alternative way to supply power to the mount? Hopefully that makes sense.

Well, for a start, the socket doesn't have to stick out; fit a flush one, or

fit the appropriate European socket.


Having said that, I would expect you could find a similar UK charger - same voltage so you just need one with the same (or a bit higher) amperage and device plug.

It sounds like your vacuum cleaner is supplied with a 2-pin European charger (which is becoming more and more common). CPC Farnell do a Schuko socket which will mount on a single (UK) socket box but it is priced at £9.12 +VAT. If connecting to a 32A ring circuit, I would suggest you will need to put an FCU in to limit the current to 13A, but others may be able to clarify if this is necessary. HTH

The regs in Shukoland show them being protected by a 16A max OCD.
UK regs require outlets on a ring final to be limited to 13A either in the plug or something like a FCU.
Personally I do limit a Shuko socket to a maximum of 16A just like blue 'Commando' sockets.

I have lots of shuko kit and attempt to use it as designed.

is not permitted with equipment bought in the UK although I personally see nothing wrong with it and would use them with no hesitation, because it does not need a tool to remove it the law does not permit them to be provided instead of fitting UK plug. However I am not sure when it comes to a wallmart power supply, it's not an electrical regulation it is some trading standards regulation.

I have purchased loads of this style [mostly containing a 13A fuse].

Knowing we were providing the AV for a large international companies sales/training event at a hotel I once purchased the entire stock of nearly 300 black and white from CPC, The company purchased 200 (@£5/) and gave them out to their staff, the hotel had 50

Correct, the law & regs does not forbid them, but they are not supposed to be supplied with new kit in lieu of a proper plug.

Censorship and we still don’t know what type of EU plug or why it was illegally sold in the UK.

I assume the charger is built into the EU "plug" and thus the EU "plug" cannot be cut off the lead and replaced by a normal UK plug.

This was my ( dubious ) solution to a similar problem.
