Evolution for the human race..

Has evolution for humans ended? If we believe natural selection, then the weak die, and the prominent males sh@g all the girls....

Whereas, we strive to prolong the lives of the weak, and anyone is allowed to produce an offspring (ugly fat bloke and one legged bird for example - Darwin would turn in his grave!!).....are we causing the human race future problems?

The suns gonna blow in about 5 billion years from now and wipe out everything so it don't matter.

One legged parents don't have one legged children.

no we are going to evolve into machine of our own design

and they will have wars over if it 0110 or 1001 ;)

I remember watching something years ago that said the human race would be split into two: the intelligent & more well off humans would continue to grow taller, live longer, earn even more money and generally live a better life.

The less intelligent, poorer humans would start to devolve, become shorter because of poor diets, live for a shorter period and earn even less money.

People who live at high altitude apparently live longer , age slower and are generally taller.

So, far less short fat birds, wearing bright pink leggings, pushing prams on our streets then.????

my point was, are we removing natural selection with medicine?

This subject is far too diverse.
How can you possibly have the same opinion on an elderly dementia sufferer as opposed to a poor tiny little 2 year old tot with cancer.

Personally I would do everything medically possible for the child .....

are you missing my point? Mother nature (or the animal mentality) would leave the dementia sufferer to die (as a burden), whereas a 2 yr old with cancer would be cared for by the tribe, yet mother nature would 'kill her off' before she was able to produce offspring.

Yet we would prolong the life of the cancer sufferer, allowing her to have kids, thereby spreading that cancer gene?

No, he's got a point, it's a good question. We've probably removed the need to evolve so maybe we'll stagnate as we are. Perhaps robots will be the ones to evolve from now on.

Don't disregard my next comment as late night ramblings...... but maybe as a race, we should be selectivley and proactively combining successful genes, e.g. Steven Hawkings with the latest Chinese female genius.... to get a race that will take human knowledge so much further?!!!

So you want to create a really intelligent kid that will spend his/her life in a wheelchair?

Progress.

Perhaps I am missing the point.
The dementia sufferer would last longer than the poor little child suffering every single minute of the day of a very short life.
I thought you said earlier something about 'intervention with medicine'.
My views were based on personal experience.

Ok so.......... Would I want my baby girl to die as mother nature obviously intended????? NO
If medicine can at least ease the unspeakable suffering until death. Then so be it.
Every day of the f*cking week.
