The old Vaillant Sines and CombiCompacts had the largest vessels ever fitted to a combi...it's completely normal to get perhaps a cupful of water from the schrader valve but the vessels were perfectly ok. With any vessel with a schrader at the base a little water is to be expected.

No, I have seen water pouring out of the shraeder valve and still managed to re charge it, the absolute must though is to leave a drain point open throughout the whole process, as you start pumping you will pump all the water out of the vessel, once the water stops flowing then you are starting to re charge the actual bladder, once you get the correct air pressure then close the drain point and repressurise the system, if you do not leave a drain point open it will not work

So, I’ve just been to an EV, and done what you said, and loads of water came out, then a gush, and then appeared to be charging the bladder took it to 1 bar ish, left it a few seconds, and stayed the same -is this correct? Also the prv was dripping water (as could be expected from no charge in the vessel) but how do you know if these want changing? Or can you clean them out?

well that is your expansion vessel sorted , Yes I clean them all the time with mostly success but you do get the odd one that has to be replaced, just be gentle removing the rubber membrane they split easily and make sure you clean the vave seating till spotless then same with the top hat face (you will know what it is when you take it apart) a smear of silicon grease on the face of the top hat and usually good to go , only takes a few mins so worth a try, if it doesnt work new valve time

Thanks. I’ve stuck a new one in for now until I get to grips with cleaning out. I might try and clean the old one. Don’t worry I work directly for an RSL (don’t spit your brew out ) so hasn’t cost the customer anything
