Used to take quite an intense circuit training class
And at this time of year with new starters i used to make the resuscitation policy very clear.
If you collapse and dont respond to a kick in the baws then sorry your going to die.

Been a few years since I did my St John's Ambulance first aid course. Used to get paid extra, so helped with first mortgage.

Trouble with first aid is, the odds are stacked against you having to give the kiss of life to a fit bird.

Statistically more likey to be a seventy year old bloke with bad breath, whose dentures may well become dislodged in the process.

Just stick with the chest thumping.

So if it's an old bloke punch him if it's a fit bird, a kiss and massage would suffice, hmm, like that better

Only last year the advice was for mouth to mouth combined with heart compressions. It's very hard work to keep someone alive even just using heart compressions, if your on your own. After about 5 minutes you'll be about beat. ;) ;)

the whole point is most people do not know how to succsefully give rescue breaths(moth to mouth),therefor using the chest "thumping" keeps the last bit of oxygen moving within the body,

People who are trained and know how to give the rescue breaths are still encouraged to do so.

First aid tip, in the event of a head wound blood tends to spurt out at an alarming rate, i find it helps if you tie a torneque around the neck
