found old junction boxes

What if the terminal on a JB was filled with hot melt glue?

Would that keep them tight ?

That makes their products look really good, and traditional junction boxes look rubbish.

It's almost as if they're trying to sell them

i dont see how it can.. over the years as the copper heats, expands and contracts it gets loose in the joint.

i cant see how resin will stop that.

DNO's have used this sort of joint for over 10 years with an expected life of 50 years, we can operate our cables at higher temperatures than in installations and are not worried (we are also using a similar design up to 33,000V

ok, but to be clear.. the joints are screw terminals?

if so, why do standard junction boxes with screw terminals need to be accessable?

Exactly the same design as we use in some of our joints on smaller cables.
Larger sizes use a screw connector that snaps off at a predetermined torque.

I do wonder about some of the interpretation of regs. That sort of joint can be used on armoured cable, buried in the ground and left for years - I suppose it could be classed as accessible as you can dig it up, but not repair it.
