In today's press, posted for people who cannot see the relationship between animal cruelty and eventual murders.
"A PETA spokesman said: 'An entire community is at risk when someone gets away with torturing small animals who can't fight back. If the people responsible are not stopped, then it is almost inevitable that their violence will escalate.
'History shows that murderers often have a history of cruelty to animals. Child-killers Robert Thompson and Jon Venables and serial murderers Ian Huntley, Thomas Hamilton, Fred West and Ian Brady all started on their violent paths by deliberately harming animals. Raoul Moat also reportedly had a history of abusing animals.
'Anyone capable of deliberately inflicting such suffering on a defenceless individual demonstrates a deeply disturbed psychological state. It is a matter of urgency that those responsible for this barbarous act be found.'
A number of studies have linked animal abuse with other types of human-on-human violence, although this does not mean children who are cruel to animals necessarily go on to be violent adults.
Organisations such as the NSPCC, RSPCA and other charities are involved in ongoing efforts to tackle problems associated with young people and animal abuse."
