French drain required...?

A French drain or land drain can be used to reduce the pressure of ground water acting against the base of a wall but this only applies where you have high ground sloping down to the wall.

A French drain will not dry the ground magically but merely interrupt the passage of groundwater and therefore remove any pressure.

A french drain may help keep the subfloor drier if you have a large pressure of groundwater as mentioned but if you live on flat ground it will mist likely do nothing.

The render wicking moisture is a completely separate issue and French drains will not help.

Thanks for your reply. Whilst the ground level immediately around the house is on a slight incline front-rear there is a steep driveway in front of the house after a small level piece of ground. I would expect that this would be applying pressure against the front and side of the house so I think a french drain may help.

As woody says any internal space which is level or below the outside ground level should be tanked internally.

Simply Reducing ground level outside would be helpful by the sound of it.
