Hi,

I have a 4 hob gas hob, it is a bosch unit without a burner supervisor and it is connected by a flexi pipe.

Would this fail the gas safe certificate?

It should be rigid (copper) with an isolation cock

Nah......A flexi hose can be used unless the MI's instructions say it must be rigid. The hose must comply with BS669.
I changed a whole council estate to copper a few years back only to be told by corgi that i could have used flexi pipe.

Certainly a flexi could be used IF the makers agreed.

But as far as I am aware on all the Bosch hobs a rigid pipe is needed so thats not helpful to the OP.

Having seen a kitchen burnt by a flexi hose on a hob I would certainly treat them as very risky.

I would be likely to class on a CP12 as At Risk although I suppose some might just say NCS.

They are usually following an illegal DIY installation of the hob too!

Burner supervision doesnt come into it .
Also a certificate is neither pass or fail it is purely a cert of what the guy finds on the day.
Dependant on various things a Flex could usually be NCS , AR and if showing signs of damage it could be ID.

Majority of older hobs asked for solid fix but in past few years alot are now saying flex is ok in right circimstances

It's only a flued appliance that must be rigid unless the MI states otherwise

Well, I came across a (well known mainstream brand) gas oven and hob last year. They were 3 years old, CE mark etc. Sold as a pair of matching fitted appliances. Hob fitted above oven in unit below, usual set up, as shown on MIs front illustration. I found a fair sized leak on gas pipework supplying the oven, dry joint under the floor below oven.
They had the MIs so I looked to see piping requirements before I repaired, oven was on a flexible, which seemed logical to be able to remove it.
MIs said flexible was prohibited.....

I read on.....BOTH appliances had to be hard piped in 15mm copper in the UK
Phoned manufacturer, they said not their problem.
Gas Safe said phone manufacturer.
Trading standards said phone Gas Safe and manufacturer.....
Explained to the customer that the solution involves a new leccy oven....

There's probably hundreds of these ovens on flexis up and down the UK....

Ignoring the flexible hose for the moment, if there isn't a flame supervision device then the hob should not be fitted in rented accommodation or buildings in multiple occupancy over a certain number of storeys.

This reg is not retrospective to older hobs already in situ and came in around 10 yrs ago, I haven't got time to get the book out as MrsD wants to go shopping IMMEDIATELY.

You sure about the rented bit?

There is no requirement for fsd on hob in rented accommodation.

The regulation applies to flats etc in buildings with multiple
accommodation (whether rented or not).

It does not apply to detached, semi or terraced houses.

But to flats and masionettes where they overlap each other.

Practically they are also best used for old people and tenants!
