Getting Engineer Access to Texecom Premier

Hi everyone,

I'm in a bit of a bind with my alarm!

I had a texecom premier alarm fitted a few years ago to replace an ancient alarm system in my house. Whilst the engineer I had to fit it is a good guy, he's EXTREMELY difficult to get hold of. Often working long periods away and not responding to calls/texts/emails. My parents also had the same alarm fitted by the same guy.

I only have 'client' type access to the alarm, as in the first pin you enter or fob, so there's limited stuff I can actually do. As I understand it the texecom premier has engineer style access that you can use to get into the other menus, with a separate pin.

I'm not a fan, generally, of not having full access to something running in my house, but equally this has caused a number of problems recently, just as a couple of examples:

1. Parents changed broadband router, alarm couldn't find wifi (obviously), couldn't get in touch wtih engineer after months of trying so I had to manually reconnect it from the SmartCom, but now there are errors i can't clear with the whole Com 1 fault thing, albeit it's now reconnected to wifi.
2. The door sensors on both mine, and my parents alarm, have set the alarm off at a stupid time because there is a known issue with them where low battery reports a tampering fault. I can't replace the sensors as I need lower level access to the alarm to do so.

I'm a fairly competent DIYer and IT professional, so fairly sure I could sort this out if I had the right level of access, but I don't know if there's a way of me 'taking control' of the system without the engineer code. I've repeatedly asked the installer but unable to get any response.

Appreciate any advice or thoughts anyone might have! Thank you :)

You can't reset an unknown engineer code without completely defaulting the panel, which would then need to be set up from scratch. It is also possible that the engineer has locked the Non-Volatile Memory, in which case you can't even default the panel, you would need to purchase a new one and set that up from scratch.

Thanks very much, unfortunately the news I expected but didn't want to hear :(

I'll try my best to get the engineer to let me know the code. Is there anything else that I might need other than that as I suspect i'll only get one chance with him!

I'm a bit nervous about completely defaulting it when it's new territory for me, don't want to brick it or not be able to stop it going off when i can't get hold of him.

Thanks again.

it’s even on Texecom’s you tube channel.

The smart com doesn’t need an engineers code to change the wifi settings of the smart com and that’s in the manual how to.

The battery situation is annoying.

You can swap the batteries out without an engineers code, you may also be able to do it better if the user battery swap mode was set up.

As for devices rather than replace them and spend money if this is the only issue with them just replace the batteries.

I suspect that you will find one particular device always goes first.

We recommend changing every two years on domestics and that will usually see them work without issue, it also avoids some crazy issues if the batteries are left in for a long time especially if using cheap batteries

Yeah, the video is what I followed and have done before, but even though it's now connected, it still throws a com 1 fault which i can't clear without engineer access (I don't believe).

The problem with the batteries (which I changed) is that it's a manufacturing fault in that particular sensor, so I need to replace the sensor itself, but can't do that without the engineer access, again :( But you're right, i can just try and keep ahead of it.

Either way, i'd rather get engineering access so I have more freedom to make choices rather than be restricted, so i'll have a long look through the manual!
