The same could be asked about ANY food that isn't prepared with the majority in mind.. Should we have gluten free food??? A majority of people don't an intollerance to it...what about veggie burgers...aren't we meat eating species???

Simple economics. Muslims want the secret recipe chicken...they now do.

I doubt their descision has anything to do with racism and I'd actually expect it to reduce segregation. I strongly suspect they made a pure buisness descision that they would gain the ability to market to Muslims and that few of their existing customers would be lost (I bet most non-muslims don't even really know what halal means beyond "acceptable to Muslims").

while I doubt it's the same for large scale abatoirs, I did watch that "kill it, cook, it, eat it" thing a while back and they showed the slaughter of most of our meats during it's run..

pigs and sheep are rendered unconcious with an electric shock to the brain, then have their throats slit after being hung upside down..
cows have a bolt gun to the forehead and then get the same..
chickens are hung upside down on a conveyor by their feet and THEN dunked in a vat and eletrocuted..

It was pretty humane , the chap smoking kept his cig away from the animal ;)
 
you can hear it choking on it's own blood..
they also break the halal rules because the other sheep shouldn't have seen it.. it causes them stress to see their friends killed.. apparently :)

I've seen another video ( which I can't link to because the site also contains some really dubious stuff and pron.. ), where they slaughter a goat..
it's standing nice and quiet and calm, then a bloke walks up to it and takes it's head clean off ( one chop, execution style ) with a large knife similar in size to a machette..
it doesn't see it coming and is dead before it knows it..

there's nothing in the halal rules that say they can't gas the animals into unconciousness, as long as it would recover if not killed afterwards..
 
let's face it, most people who eat meat don't want to know the gory details although the killing process is as old as civilization. animals in the wild kill each other, too, but that's called 'Nature'.

This leads me to conclude that maybe the 'Halal food is slaughtered in a less humane way than standard food' argument is heavely flawed.
