Only experience I had of Russians were out near our place in Spain. A Casino opened up and an apartment complex was built dead opposite. For some reason it was filled with 100% Russians. In fact when it was being built we tried to look at a show home. The sales people were Russian. It was made quite clear that we weren't welcome. The ones we saw on the beaches were on the whole, rude and arrogant. Mind you, that could only be typical of the type of Russian that can afford a holiday home in Spain - not unlike the typical Brit who buys a place in Marbs or Benalmádena! I doubt the average Russian is anywhere near as badly behaved as that lot. We sold up last year and hadn’t been out there since 2019 but I wonder if they are all still out there now?

You sun, me snow. Far, far fewer Russians skiing this year and last. They are horrible. I suspect these ones are the low level functionaries that took a little while for the sanctions to catch up with.

During the 90's when we were on more friendly terms, we were excercising with the Russian Navy. When alongside Odessa and socialising with our hosts, the Russian sailors would always refer to their long felt gratitude towards the Royal Navy for the support we gave them during the Arctic convoys of WW2. After a long evening of downing their local vodka, the locals would then cosey up and suggest we band together our navies and invade the USA.....................then we sobered up!

One of my interactions with Russians involved two marine engineers on board a ship at Tilbury docks. It was newly built ship built in Russia and owned and operated by the Indian Merchant Navy carrying tea from India to the UK.

The engineers were sailing with the ship to repair under guarantee the many problems that were being found.

One ( Igor ) was short, tubby and scruffy but he knew every technical detail of the ship.

One ( Ivan ) was tall and immaculately dressed and had no technical ability and stuck like glue to Igor

Igor didn't speak English so all conversation with Igor was via Ivan translating and maybe censoring Igor's opinion.

When Ivan was out of ear shot Igor did have a couple of choice English words when working on one of the many problems with the mechanics and electrics of the ship., "Vussian schit".

The majority support putins war, what more do you need to know.
What more ?, maybe the real opinion of that majority,

But that real opinion is something that they cannot voice for fear of reprisals and/or imprisonment after being denounced by neighbours or friends or even relatives.

When the East German government collapsed the STASI files became available to view. Many people were shocked to discover who had been reporting their activity to the STASI. That is an important part of how a communist government ( dictatorship ) protects itself from being removed from power.

I've personally found that in my years of travels most people in all countries are decent people...

It's the a*sehole politicians that are to blame for whipping up anti foreigner hatred in their obsession for power and money!

You only have to see what has happened in the UK in the run up to and after the 2016 referendum to understand that!
