It seems to me that just recently MK have stopped bothering about quality, presumably to manufacture their products for less money.

I have noticed the back of their 1 and 2 gang switches have changed and now have smaller terminals, which make it difficult if you have 3No. 1.5mm² wires destined for the same terminal.
Also it looks as if the rocker part of the switch is not mounted deep enough into the face plate.

The MCBs are now on their third design of the last couple of years, yet the RCBOs are still on the origional design (and they are not old stock as the flying neutral lead has been harmonised). This makes it look like you have used two different brands in the consumer unit.
Also the new MCBs have philips screws, instead of pozi screws like the last two designs had. Who has an insulated philips screwdriver?

At the company I work for, in the last couple of months we have hade NINE  twin moulded boxes with one of the threaded screw holder jobbies missing, and two faulty socket fronts.

Also their is that fantasticly designed flush mount sentry board that they are churning out.

    yes, time for an update on that particular design i think.

Sounds like the electrician's favourite brand will soon be Crabtree?

There sockets are still good, and so is the grid / edge / euro stuff.

Everything else is crap.

The ligh switches went ****e about 2yr ago - half way through a large house second fix! And they did look different! Had to remove some and use grid to get it to match!

I was quite dissapointed with the quality of their aerial sockets when I fitted one the other day, but on the whole I'd say they are still fairly high quality

My local Robert Dyas was selling MK lightswitches for One Pound each, 1 or 2 gang units, in their summer sale!

Yip, and Wilkinson were selling MK lightswitches very cheap too. They had a batch of 2-ways bagged and priced as one-way. And they feel and look quite good. No probs with their sockets.

I'm not sure it's just MK, the new light cream MG boards seem to be made of thinner steel or is it just me?

Try Tenby....I know I keep on about them but I promise you, you'll be impressed.

we have a tenby lightswitch in the kitchen. its upside down. always has been. it says tenby on the face, so you can see its upside down too. :(

Surely that would not be much of a job for you to sort out.

Go on, go and do it now.

It would bug the hell out of me if it were in my house. (I probably wouldn't have changed yet either though)

some ass hole plastered around it.

Yes. MK have gone carp.

Ever since they realised they would have to knock money off if they were to survive. Trouble is, they also knocked a bit of quality off as well.

Their dimmers no longer have fuses to protect them from blown lamps. There is a huge warning in the pack to the effect of, your dimmer will be toast if you connect lamps without internal fuses....

I should stress that Tenby "old" style switches are rubbish, I was referring solely to Double and single switched socket outlets.
