Heathrow not free

The point I was trying to make, is that one might not want to go to the airport but, if you get stuck in that lane you're going through the drop off/pick up point and have to pay to get out.

How do you "accidentally" find yourself driving into an airport?
I have to make a conscious effort (and often require the aid of signage and sat nav) to do so. And that's by intention. .

Because, it isn't clear at the last little roundabout that the road goes to the airport and not a hotel or an exit. And it's one way, so no turning back or getting off it.

Is there a catch? Is the long stay more than 30 minutes of walk away from the terminals? With luggage, children, and old grannies tagging along, it may not be feasible.
A drop off means just that, the driver drops the passengers off. The driver does escort them into and out of the airport.

Flip off left, after last roundabout (that I can see anyway).

If someone is chancing it, trying to get as close to the doors as possible without paying, I can see how you could be "trapped"..........

And thats why there are no free drop offs

They were being abused by people saying I'll only be 10 minutes and taking more.

There are other options like taxis, but they charge money too

Why should it be free? Free flights would be nice too.
Sounds like it isn't free even now. Where do they hide the fare prices? It doesn't make sense to pay fares that are more costly than short-stay parking.

They should put up a ticket gate for this forum so that you have to pay to post. I don't need to post, so I don't care.

"Free drop-off options are available at Heathrow’s Long Stay car parks, where passengers can take a free bus transfer to the terminal."
Where do they state that, so that I can check they haven't suddenly added a fare to the bus? It seems logical that a private company should introduce fares because it is a private company.

Free drop off option bit.
