Good afternoon All,

I was wondering whether someone could help with the following?

I recently had a PIR report completed on my home and have had 2 code 2's one of which was debris within the CU however, I need help closing out the other one which is as follows.

The Main earth enters the board through a bush but, there is a slight gap around the cable (no more than 2-3mm) which has been picked up on the report. My question is could I seal around the cable with some mastik or could I cut a grommet and install it around the earth cable and still comply with the regs?

If not could you suggest another method of sealing this minute gap in order to close out the code 2?

Many thanks,

Graham.

The Guide it does have some odd instructions as to what should pass and what should fail.

The normal would be not to take cables in through the top of a board. As on the top 1mm is the limit. On front / back / side and bottom you are allowed 12.5mm see IP Codes .

And yes normally some silicon sealant would do. You must not use too much so it will insulate the cables allowing them to over heat and it must not be removable without a tool.

Oddly I have failed consumer units where the type of blank used could be removed without a tool. But at the end of day it's down to the guy signing the document.

If the cable is entering the top of the consumer unit and you can fit a 1.00mm wire down the gap, you will get coded for a potential hazard.
Silicon is often used to sort this non-compliance out!
