Help with hive

That is because the connection used to come via the old room thermostat, just connect as I said, the hive opens the valve, the valve sends power to the boiler and pump not the hive
I get what you are saying but valve brown wire goes first to the connection hub in the loft next to it then that is connected to the old cable which went down the the thermostat (which has now been cut out).

does that make sense? So I can’t get a feed from the CH on up to the valve unless there is a spare wire on the current other wiring which I can’t see there is.

The old thermostat was simply a switch , wired in series to the brown wire to the CH zone valve, you just need to disconnect that , either join the two old wires together , or make a direct connection between the CH on from the hive to the brown wire to the CH zone valve , it is as simple as that, nothing complicated, the hive is just a fancy switch nothing else

I really do hope I’m being a complete idiot but I can’t see it.

I’ve drawn a diagram.

I can’t just join the cables at the thermostat in the living room (which is how it was before I think) as the return to the valve in the loft is gone.

how can a then connect 4 in the hive to the valve in the loft when there are no spare wires as I can see at the back of the hive going up there?

Just fit the hive receiver next to the wiring centre, you will have all the wires you need there, the thermostat can go anywhere you want

I think that is a great idea if I can work it out
nothing hard about it , permanent LN&E to the hive , HW on from hive to brown wire on HW zone valve, CH on from Hive to brown wire on CH zone valve, the rest will just stay the same
