Do i need hepatitus B or C jab

- i've got one of them from when i went on holiday - but Doc said i had to pay for the other. She recommended that i hadthe jab considering my line of work, and she actuallly mentioned a recent case of a drain cleaner who was in a Bristol hospital for 2 months! after contracrting hepatitus b\c! during work).

I'd worry more about the pasting you'll get from the mods for not posting this in the diy surgery and medical forum. :(

i'll take mod 1, if you get the other Mods using the classic pincer movement ;)

This demonstrates the level of paranoia that exists among the mods. There has not been any death threat, (nobody can post a rate for the job without it being deleted)

why are you asking plumbers for a second medical opinion over your doctors advice.

Have you ever been to the Doctors lately Rob.

He/she justs sits there playing with his computer, prints of a bit of paper and says take 3 a day, goodby  come and see me in 2 weeks time.

Hep A you get via your mouth, from foul water etc. Vaccine 10 years, definitely worth it
Hep B and C are via body fluids, from someone who's got it. Through "intimate" contact - including sharing the 50 quid note to snort your coke. So not in the course of normal plumbing...

Hep B vaccine 5 years.
Hep C and the rest, no vaccine.

Me Mam has had Hep B and C from blood transfusions.

Hep B is also via the mouth

I remember it being a really common problem when I was in Kathmandu - all those lovely looking cakes and plates just being wiped off, not washed

I had the Hep B vaccine in a previous line of work. It is given in 3 doses - via injection, and after the final dose you will need to go for a blood test, which will then give you an idea of how long your immunity will last before requiring a booster. Some people don't get any immunity through the jab, and others can get 5 years + The second dose is given at 6 weeks after the first, then the last dose is at 3 months later (going from memory).

I have been out of 'medicine' for some years, but I don't think you can get a vaccine to protect against Hep C

It sounds like you probably had Hep B, which means that you need to return to your doc (and pay unfortunately) as you still need 2 more jabs to complete the course.

Hep B is getting very common these days, and it is not a disease you want to get !!! I would personally advise anyone who is likely to be exposed to the disease to get the injection (hospital workers, Police, ambulance workers, 'cleaners', refuge collectors, laundry workers - basically anyone who can come into contact with contaminated products or people !!) :D
