Hob Connection Query

It's possible that the neutral is incorrect to go under the "square metal bit"?
Yes I see that but look how the screw sits ON the upturn and not on the flat area between the upturns due to the plate not sitting pretty. If that moves (Let's not get into discussions of how or why) it will be loose and potential for high resistance joint and overheating etc.
Then look how nicely the earth wire is clamped between the square plate and the screw.

Thanks for all the help.

The cable was just laid out temporarily to allow me to work out how the links go. The ferrels sit between the metal plate and the screw. The fit is exact, I couldn't see them moving even if the screws became lose. I will be removing and terminating all wires correctly in their final position.

Based on the photos do you think they are expecting small loops to be formed and inserted between the terminal blocks for the single phase connection. This seems like a bit of a bodge in today's world.

Are the ferrite beads the same as the blocks on laptop chargers? Am I reading correctly that they just stop chatter noise between the wires. Are they always positioned at the end of the run. If so what is the reason for this

Links have turned up and fit nicely.

With them being exposed is there not a risk of L and N jumping (is this arcing) between terminal 3 and 4?

You should probably look up on Wikipedia how many volts are required to arc across a given distance. If it were likely then they wouldn't make it like that!

Also I know there were concerns raised about the cable terminations.

Does the below look correct. The earth had to be looped up as it was slightly long but I didn't want to cut and ferrel but rather Ed to keep the original ferrel on. Does it all look OK before I connect to the supply

Thanks for the responses on the arch query. I assumed it couldn't but just wanted to double check before closing it up

Thanks for all the help. All connected. Christmas lunch is back on again

Looks ok to me.
I might have put the ferrels under the links to get more contact area.
Where they are is fine, if under the link the links will be significantly twisted/distorted

I know it meanst the connexion between the ferrule and contact relies on one or two links but in my experience it causes less problems.

Connections look good. :)
But sorry , the PATester in me doesn't like the cord grip over the loop of earth.
The grip could cut through the insulation of the earth, and the cord may not be gripped as firmly as intended.

Looking at you photos again it could do with changing slightly, I'd move the neutral wire to the other terminal and move the whole of the cable/ferrite further up to allow the cable clamp to clamp against the sheath rather than the cores.

EDIT: FHS I can't believe that while double checking the earlier posts and spotting that, RG did the same.(y)
