I was called by someone today with this cover.

He called them as the CH switch on his combi boiler had broken.

The engineer who came told him that he would not fix the switch until he had the plate HE cleaned as it was blocked.

The owner had not complained about DHW delivery and was unaware of any problem until I telephone confirmed that it was slightly blocked.

He had a 35 min telephone argument with Home Service as he felt that they should replace the switch under the policy and leave him to deal with any sludge problem ( not covered ) if and when it caused him a problem.

What do those who do repairs for Home Service say ???

We do a lot of work for them mate and this is strange as they usually get us to repair the boiler (if possible) even when sludge/scale has been identified the stop cover untill the sludge problem has been sorted.

They are usually great when it comes to getting a customers boiler going.

feel free to email me and I will see what i can do (probably not much but its worth a go :) )

This is in Heyes.

They contacted me three years ago when HS had completely mis diagnosed the problem and I went and sorted out the problem for them. They got our fees back from HS.

In this case he is going to get us to deal with the HE and I said that I would fix the switch free for him. As he will have to get the HE fised sometime he is not so bothered this time.

However, he is annoyed that they are refusing to fix the switch using the excuse of a minor problem which he has not even noticed yet. I agree with him but in this instance its not worth making much of a fuss.

However do you think the engineer is correct to refuse to fix the switch first?

well I hate to make a statement that sticks it to other chap, but i think that we would have replaced to switch then called in the scale problem.

but that would be our way of doing it.

I suppose they could argue its creating unnecessary ware on the boiler. Although i assume they're touting for extra work with that policy?

Am I missing something? Has the customer had this fault/problem for the last 3 years and only now is getting it sorted

No !

Three years ago they diagnosed a faulty expansion vessel and a scaled up heat exchanger. They did not want to fix it !

I attended and diagnosed the "pressure fault" was a leaking filling loop valve !!! There was no scaling of either heat exchanger then.

He got our costs back from HS then.
