It's time that 'honour killing' is dropped in news reports...

Along with 'joy riding' etc!

I don't call it an "Honour Killing."

I call it a "Family Murder"

Sadly these seem to occur in all ethnic groups.

I think the point being made is that the term Honour Killing lends dignity and justification to the person who committed the crime. It seems there is an ongoing search for another term which more properly sums up the true horror. I would suggest Cowardly Backward FUBAR Misogynistic Murder.

Long winded and to the point.

But we can all see through words and I'm happy to leave it at Honour killing as it's shows how depraved and ancient some of these regions and cultures are.
 
It's misguided honour, even stretching the meaning.

It's mostly greed. Arranged marriages usually for financial reasons. The "honour" only really comes into play when the arrangement fails, and the finances suffer.

Ironically I don't think we should be involved in whether that is a good system or not. But call the result what it is and don't dress it up.

The Brigadier has a point: we are imposing our cultural values on another world which we only glimpse on tv or the Net.

Iran celebrates the arrival of Spring with a fire festival, a pre-Islamic Zoroastrian celebration, i think, which was turned into a dance craze on TikTok by Iranian women. The Mullahs censured them, of course, and made them apologise for letting their hair down.
In this country nobody would pull their hair out over such a thing.
 
I have to say that I feel there is no honour in murder.
And no joy in stealing a car.

When the term joy riding was invented, cars were entered and driven without causing any damage and left undamaged after use.
