'Honour' killings ...

But we can all see through words and I'm happy to leave it at Honour killing as it's shows how depraved and ancient some of these regions and cultures are.
On the contrary, I feel calling it honour killing is an attempt to excuse the murder of an innocent person.

The concept of family honour is much different to ours.
They still adhere to a clan system of family ties that go back centuries.
When this honour is disgraced by someone wishing to pursue western morals rather than Islamic tradition a male family member will take it upon themselves to administer sha'ria law upon the matter.
In their country, it's their law but here they should be reminded that sha'ria only goes so far with the Law of our land.

It goes beyond family honour.

It is a means of attempting to preserve religious and societal doctrines and structures.

It's odd that you (sensibly) point out how barbaric this particular tradition is, but are so sensitive to their feelings to keep using a forgiving term for it.

I'd you're willing to take a stand on the act of murdering someone for not doing what their family tell them to, taking a stand against giving it a respectable name isn't too much of an ask.

It's murder, any deranged justification is for the sentencing hearing.

It's 2023, anyone who can defend this sort of idiocy is, well, an idiot. And if it's the case that it's even remotely still acceptable in their country of origin, it certainly isn't acceptable or compatible with UK values. And pleeeeease, no lectures on me using the phrase country of origin, hopefully what I mean by that is understood.

It's odd that you are pulling me up for something I haven't done.

I've just checked this thread back:I haven't used the term once, let alone "keep using it".

An Honour killing is just what it is. It explains how fúcked up these families must be.
But it emphasis to those that do it that they are correct.
If the media just call it murder, then maybe that will change opinion in time. If you and I call it honour killing, then that makes it sound a justifiable action.

I've never heard of it happening in a society with traditional UK background.

Family murders.

I'm glad you have never heard of it, but people of traditional UK background, almost always men, kill their wives, girlfriends, exes and children often enough for it to be a problem.
