Take the word "commissioner".

If you miss out one of the "m"s, the spelling checker recognises that "comissioner" is wrong, and suggests the correct word.

If you miss out one of the "s"s, the spelling checker recognises that "commisioner" is wrong, but is unable to find a suggestion....

I take mine to 'word' & check it, but as long as it can be understood & is readable unfortunately there are many on here that get there i & e's about face....Good job I checked this as there was an error.

Those of is over a certain age will remember sitting in infant school chanting "I before E except after C".

Why did they teach us that when it is not true for many common words?

Maybe they hadn't invented counterfeit beige veils back then ?

(though of course, counterfeit does adhere to the rule, strictly speaking)

weigh up the possiblities, seize the moment, reign supreme

I couldn't deign to do that.

We should stop deifying that rule, lest our spelling standards wash over the weir.

I remember reciting that in Miss Bloods class as a child , but I have seen a few exceptions to the rule ,

I even brought it up one morning as I lay in bed next to the wife , who was still asleep ,lol.....the cat Purdey looked impressed at least ..lol

Don't bring things up in bed. Especially if it impresses a cat - takes a lot to impress them in that dept....
