Over the years I've lost count how many Makita batteries I have 'lost' where i have worked with other trades or had trades working in my home to find batteries missing. I'm thinking of a deterrent even if each battery is dayglow green with my name perm etched on it.

Thoughts suggestions welcome

3D printed a template of my initials. And then used spray can to spray my initials onto my tools and batteries.

Zero security if being nicked, but means I know which are mine from a distance if in a pile or being walked off with by friends.

Did consider, but never got round to it, using a Sharpie to write house number and postcode so police have contact address if nicked (means they are in slightly better position to gain evidence that nicked rather than "bought off eBay".)

How does it help if the battery is spirited away, and you never ever get to see it again to be able to say "that's mine"?

If it's a concern, you need to buy in to the new crop of batteries with built in Bluetooth.

The apprentices at work resolved this by spray painting ones entire toolbox and tools bright pink.

Now no one want's to use those tools :)

Sharpies are rubbish, they're not permanent.

You can get paint pens (real paint, in a pen!). Think lidl will have some in this weekend, or you can get them any colour you want on ebay. I use them on a lot of hand tools.
Shovels rakes etc I normally mark with linemarking paint (cos it's cheap and easy), and maybe with a paint pen too.
I also made a stencil out of a scrap of vinyl flooring with my intitals, for wheelbarrows and the like.

It's not really high security (you could remove the paint), but more just to stop your tools getting mixed up with someone else's.

You could also use a soldering iron or a dremel to write on stuff.

Print your signature on sticky paper.
Stick on tool.
Use a cheap engraveing tool and follow your signature through paper

Initials at base of battery compartment leave little access to remove or melt your initials/postcode into tool with soldering iron or heated screwdriver tip .
