The Romans invaded us, and there have been many more since, history is full of cases where people have done things which today we do not see as right, and the world war one, reparations were in part blamed for world war two, and it was the victors who paid with World War II for the goods supplied to help win the war, errors were made, at least in some peoples eyes, for the way land which did not really belong to the victors was given away. And of course split.

So we can't really go back before World War II with any apologies or reparations in my opinion, as so much changed at that point. So I see a news report about a black boxer today what was done is clearly wrong, but it all changed in 1948, and today it is unlikely anyone responsible is still alive.

To me, our lifetime is 3 score years and 10, so anything which happened more than 70 years ago is just history, no one should be apologising or giving any reparations for wrong doings over 70 years old unless processing were started before it was started before 70 years ago, and still in process.

We need a statute of limitations, with road traffic offences it is 2 weeks, unless you have hidden your details, maybe that's too short, but I am sure that boxer is dead now, so what's the point in doing anything, can't see him fighting a title fight now.

Very fee people are pure English because there was no such thing back in the day. We are a country of migrants.

In any event You would to offset the benefits when calculating the compensation.

Only those still living can be compensated, on those involved, can compensate, or apologise. Once either are dead, the slate is wiped clear.

African nations are quick to point out the industrial slavery of western nations yet choose to ignore the Arab trade. Considering how wealthy the Saudi's, Qatar and the oil-soaked countries in the middle-east are, perhaps they should widen their net.

The African nations forget that without their compliance the slave trade would not have existed, they sold the slaves to western nations, also what about the Germans and Japaneese in the last war, are they busy compensating the countries who had their people who were slaves under them, I think not !

I think apologising for anything that you did more than 10 mins ago is meaningless and pointless. After that to most people any offence is forgotten and apologising helps no one. It's like all these war cimes allegedly committed by Israel and Russia, the people responsible will never be prosecuted and apologising will help non of the victims.

Also those dastardly Scandanavians, (should burn down Ikea) and the Barbary pirates who took our and Irish people as slaves. Just tell them to be gratefull that their ancestors managed to get to our shores or they would be still in Africa chopping or getting chopped up.

You know Germany and Italy were made to pay reparations for WW2 as well? The initial demand was sacked down as there wasn't as much to loot left. Nothing really changed there. There are still reparation cases going through the courts.

So you might need a new basis for your conclusion.

Exactly, drawing a line at WW2 is just arbitrary and doesn't have any real significance to reparations 'expiring' or guilt being absolved.
