How much does it cost to get a boiler replaced?

With the amount plumbers charge I'm seriously thinking about quitting IT and getting trained up as a qualified tradesman!

Only the other day there was an advert on telly trying to sell an IT course average salaray telephone numbers etc.

WOT not true then?

Anyway for me you might aswell become a plumber everyone else has.

Just found out a friend of mine may lose he's job from Serco, they are cutting its workforce by 50%.

My view on this is, everybody will need a plumber/electrician rather than an IT geek (like me!)

not a dig at any particular people, but i cant beleive people moaning about the prices. you pay for what you get, want a crap job, pay peanuts. im sure in your own jobs you get paid. we arent going to work for free!

I agree with that. I'm not a tradesperson but I know a fair few and many people forget the cost in both time and money of years of training and the experience they bring to a job.

I remember years ago being told a story which is probably one of those urban myths and has numerous variations on it.

Bank in the states had a problem one morning when they couldn't open the vault for the day's banking business. Timelock was stuck. Called out the 'specialist'. He took 5 minutes and the vault door was swung open. Specialist tells the manager "That'll be $200". Manager says , "What - for 5 minutes work? - no chance" Specialist promptly shuts vault door and says "You open it then" and wanders off.

You are not only paying for the time but the skills and experience of the tradesperson.

Good tradespersons are worth their weight in gold.

IMHO, anyhow.

you sound like one of my decent customers! people dont appreciate or look behind the bits that meet the eye., tools, traning, time, little extra materials stuff like that. even the whole £2.50 registration cost.

Manager says "no no we must have that vault open"!

Locksmith says then it will be another $200 if you want me to open it a second time making $400 !

Manager has to agree and pays the $400.
