Hows this for a service deal?

They don't care about what some disgruntled gas fitter posts on the Internet - it's cheap as chips - that's what they care about. They are doing the work while your van is parked outside your house.

Of course...no doubt they'll get what they pay for............bu66er all.

They are both Gas Safe and NECIEC qualified - that's more than what you are. They spend an hour on site - whereas the average time for the industry is 20 minutes. Therefore they MUST be good and you must be jealous. ;)

Joe, you are outrageous. Making claims about people and businesses that you can't back up! I have photos of shoddy work and you still would invite them in because they are cheap.

I don't think joe's got a clue why that photo was so "bad".
Perhaps you could explain it to him.....keep it simple for him though.

They are cheap. They are well qualified. And you never make a mistake eh?

If they are cowboys why are they still in the industry?

They are out there getting the work and you are in here complaining about it.

So what am I doing that is so outrageous? They are GAS SAFE aren't they?

They also check your fires, your CU, your appliances etc and spend an hour on site. What more do you want for 40 quid?

Smell the coffee guys - this is the future. You will either adapt and compete or go by the wayside. It's your call.

The price is excellent, the service... You've seen the pictures.

I only report these things, it's not up to me to decide if they get screwed on it.

It's a simple marketing plan mate to get in the door. Good idea and I bet they find something wrong with almost every installation.

Hopefully they put the front covers back onto seal the products of combustion in on MOST jobs, as a minimum.

I think you'll find they are using the supermarket ideal of low price and lots of customers. It's the way of the world.

Joe, the BG CPSs(cowboys in polo shirts) have been sticking their probe up some old dear's flue for years & calling it giving her a good service.

But they don't spend an hour on site like gas-elec do. They don't test the electrics either. Gas-Elec are a real bargain.

Joe, go back to school mate.

If you knew anything about marketing, you would know it is call a loss leader. I WILL educate you. It is where a company offers services at an unsustainable price in a bid to sell extra services and accessories to unsuspecting customers.

My business does it, tesco do and you are not even aware of it.

Why can tesco sell something at a price that sometimes seems unbelievable? So you go in and potentially buy something else at full price, that you didn't intend to buy.

This is what gas elec are doing. British gas did it with the fixed price repair. It bit them on the ass. But they sold shed loads of co detectors and magnacleans.

Don't be silly. If tesco want to flog booze below cost then that's up to them. It doesn't mean you HAVE to buy anything.

How much do YOU charge for a 20 minute service?

Gas-Elec charge £39 quid for ONE HOUR and check loads of other stuff too. You are a dinosaur. You'll soon be extinct. Not many people want to pay £100 for a service when they could get one for £39.

You shop around for everything else in life - so why not a gas service?

I charge £50 for a service with seals and a basic check of a fire if there is one.

Oh and I put my socket n see in and check the earth loop impedance and other basic electrical checks, that are required before taking the front case off.

In all honesty a combi service can take 30-45minutes, cleaning the condensate trap out is usually the worst part. I always leave a form as insurance. And you will always see my initials inside the combustion chamber with a date in perm ink.

Back boiler (which gas elec charge an extra £50 for in the t&c's) is £80.

I have enough customers to keep petrol in my fancy saloon, keep beer in my hand and have an iPad to annoy you on, and when I want to take time off to see my wife I just pop home.

£100 is not realistic, you're just banging numbers about there, save those prices for your repairs when you need them.

Well I've got to say you are very competitive then - and that sounds like a very good deal. One last thing; if they need repairs later in the year, do you keep your prices a bit lower than you would for a complete stranger contacting you? A sort of 'existing customer' rate?

I keep my prices fixed to all customers, but linked to inflation, and my hourly rate has yet to be challenged, customers know where they stand and are happy to continue to call me back, no hidden terms, but I do have terms :D

OAPS get a discount regardless. :D

I like meeting people and fixing stuff, I'm no ruthless capitalist but maybe one day I will take over the world, one gas-elec repair job at a time! :D
