I feel as though I have achieved something!

System cases will last forever unlike Stanley in my experience. TLC Direct do some as do QVS.

I use a double depth one with room for plenty of drivers & cutters on the double depth recess on the right hand side and then two trays full of little (and larger) plastic containers for all your bits and pieces. Just make sure you do up the latches before you pick it up.

I like the stanley boxes too, I use them for crimps. I bought another one for my screws but not yet got around to sorting them out

ah yes, I have a large plastic paint pail marked "jumbled screws"

Just the job for a rainy day, to sort them out.

It's the same with any filing system, be it for parts, tools, documents, be it physical or electronic, you aways end up with a "MISC"....

Oh, and BTW, John - you might like to know that I accomplished the upload of all 11 images to Imageshack and the insertion of the code to show clickable thumbnails in this post with a single drag'n'drop operation... ;)

I have a stanley case with removable tubs, I keep all my small screws etc in it.
It's carp!
The lid does not keep them separate when you carry it so the mix up!
My bigger Stanley one (same as Spark123's) is much better & at £5.99 at Focus I'm going to get a few more, this carp on can be used for something else instead...

So how many of these do you take to a job?

BAS is a diyer

I take 3 of the large one-layer tradecase/system cases to a job, one of them full of drills, bits, holesaws and the like. It works well on bigger jobs as long as you keep them stocked but with all the other gear as well it's too much for a small job. But if you leave something behind it'll always be the thing you need.

Double ones look interesting

Luckily in my area we generally work out of the van. None of this unloading and then having to go and park a mile away.

I think it depends on the size and duration of the job as to how many boxes and how much kit you take in.

My boxes are very simply "Fixings" and "Crimps / Nut Bolts / ETC". My clip box is a plastic stanley, and it is ****e. I wish I bought another of these trade cases to be honest.

Drill bits that are not regularly used are in an trade case with no compartments in. The drill bits that are used regularly are in with the drills (18v makita for light drilling and screwing and a 36v SDS bosch for meaty drilling and fixing).

I have two tool boxes though, these are stanley professional something or other - they are black and have a yellow bead around the rim which water proofs them. They are also sturdy enough to use as a step up if you are allowed them on site!

One tool box for standard lecky stuff, and the other has all my comms tools as I do a fair amount of datacomms work too such as flood wiring, general network wiring, AS400 legacy wiring, PBX installs etc.

No matter how organised you are, there is always something else you need or think would help!

I bought one from Buildcenter, Looks similar to System cases. They also do one filled with a good assortment of screws and plugs.

So in a sense I do take them to every job... :D (Except those at my dear old Mum's)

They aren't always all in the living room though, handy for group photos. Woodscrews, drills & plugs live in a downstairs cupboard, crimps, conduit & trunking fittings, heatshrink & machine screws in the loft.

They look the same as the ones toolstation sell, had mine for 2yrs, its been through hell and still in one piece unlike the screwfix one I had.

Interestingly the case pics on toolsation seem to be pretty much the same as on systemcase yet they are much cheaper from toolstaion......

Just dug my toolstation case out and it actually has system case embossed on the side...

This is what I mean - everywhere stocks them. I couldn't find the exact one stocked that I wanted though - the SORTA case rather than a SYSTEM case - The SORTA cases are larger and far deeper.

Excellent build quality. The screwfix ones are very poor.

I looked at a case like the system ones, today.
They wanyed £22+vat for it.

No ta, I think I'll stick to the cheaper Stanley ones for now.
I have just been out & bought some more screws so I can top up mine.

I'm looking into toolboxes too because taking 3 simple toolbags with me is getting to be quite a pain when looking for something.
I want to be able to have screwdrivers etc in specific pockets.

I have one of those Stanley wheeled things on the landing, maybe I ought to sort it out & use that (as crappy as it is, its going to be better than a plain sack!) :D

For a tool bag take a look at the CK 'technicians tool bag'. I haven't lost a screwdriver since getting mine, and I can actually find tools when I need them :D you can get an awful lot in it with careful packing.

Its ideal for smaller jobs/2nd fix type work, I still have 2 other toolboxes for the larger stuff for 1st fixing etc though...
