I went to Spain this week and despite what the anti-Brexit scaremongers on here said……

It's not me that had my boarding pass stamped. Its weird that someone is blaming Britain leaving the EU as the reason why a non EU country decides to start stamping boarding cards at the border.

Well if you know, why are you asking?
Actually I don't know how to get around the electronic visas and unrestricted travel in the EU/EEA area for UK citizens...

But that's what you claimed you know how to do, and thus it is up to you to tell us how this can be achieved for all and not just the wealthy...

So do enlighten us if you can ;)

We voted to make travel harder.

Don't complain about having new rules and guidance to follow that wasn't needed before

It's relevant to the schengen zone. Hence the brexit part

I returned from Switzerland yesterday, and had to get my boarding pass stamped at the departure gate, after having already gone through customers. The reason given by Swiss Air was Brexit. How is that relevant? Weird.

No major hassle, small flight, but left a lot of people perplexed. And I am not sure what happened to all those whole only had a boarding pass on their phone.
There must have been a f'cking big crowd of people standing around then. I haven't used a paper boarding pass for years and I'm surprised they still have them. I've never seen a boarding pass stamped at the departure gate. Most passengers seem to have passes on their phone. And you never saw any of those passengers with passes on their phone? I find that strange and hard to believe.

since the OP has already cleared customs and has his passport stamped (we assume), there is no Brexit related need to stamp a boarding pass, which will be disposed of.

Often have them stamped if subject to a thorough security check. Airlines will print them if needed

I told you one way. but apparently that government and EU approved system is just
a corrupt system only available to the wealthy...
If you don't qualify for a Golden Visa and want to live and work in Greece for more than 90 days you can apply for a A Greek D Visa. Or you can do what they do in Turkey, which is just go to islands without checks. There are over 500.

along with stickers on your passport of colour tags on your bag etc. all so that you can be targeted for anything from additional security to having your over sized bag priced up. But... nothing to do with Brexit.

You only told us the way a person with substantial financial means can get a golden visa/passport...

And then repeat your unverified claim about travel arrangements between one EU country and another third country which have shall we say a chequered history as regards travel...

The question is therefore still, what about the whole of the EU/EEA?

Are you saying that a UK citizen should fly to Turkey, get on a boat to a Greek Island and travel onwards if they want to stay in the EU/EEA indefinitely?

And then live how?

Given that a UK citizen will have a UK passport which is easily checked should you wish to access any service...

Still waiting to hear how you'll defeat the electronic visa system btw ;)

If you’re planning to travel to an EU country (except Ireland), or Switzerland, Norway, Iceland, Liechtenstein, Andorra, Monaco, San Marino or Vatican City, you must follow the Schengen area passport requirements.

But I was not going into Switzerland, or the EU, but going into the UK. This a was an additional UK passport check at the gate.
I can't see how it is related to Brexit or Schengen.

The man said that if our boarding passes were not stamped then we would not be able to get on the plane. Utterly bizarre, seeing that we'd all already gone through customs and had passports checked. I'll have to look and see what it says - if my wife hasn't already chucked it out. Got home late and just dropped it by my bedside on the pile of things that are not laundry or chocolate.

Sorry, what do you find hard to believe? That I had a paper pass, or others did not?
There was a mix, probably 50/50 I'd say.

This might explain it, at least stamping of paper passes: "That stamp is checked by airport security while passing the boarding counter (after the airline staff scans it). The stamps are checked at the gate where they check to make sure you've passed through immigration and/or security and that authorities are aware of the plane you are going to be boaring." - long link

There's loads of people asking about it on the internet, it is not an uncommon thing.

I wonder if it is to stop illegal immigration ... not sure how ... maybe there have been cases of people swapping passports and boarding passes inside airport departures to get to places they could not get permission to fly to. Although they'd still need to get through border control at the other end.
