Why do we need Identity cards. We live on an Island, for gods sake. If you just check the people coming into the country, the terrorists are the ones without passports
Anyone that can steel/counterfiet a passport, can do the same with an ID card. The only reason that they haven't, so far, is that they don't need to.
What about people visiting this country as part of a holiday, business trip, or whatever. Will they have to purchase one in advance of their visit. If not, how will we stop tourists blowing things up?
Come to think of it, how will the posession of an ID card stop the holder blowing things up? Will it self destruct in close proximity to cemtex or something?
The whole scheme is a pile of cack. I have lived in England all of my life, never committed any crime, and will be locked up because I won't have an ID card. Whereas, Osama Binliner will be allowed to enter the country, (with a forged passport and suitably restyled turban of coarse), blow up whatever he see's fit, and b*gg*r off to some far flung land, first class, with all of his shopping from Harrods (VAT exempt), and the duty free shops, under yet another identity.
If this scheme is about preventing terrorism, p*ss*ng in the wind must be more effective than us mere mortals are led to believe.
