Well i bet they don't talk about themselves as heroes. It would make anyone with decency squirm.
That is another issue though but one that massively devalues the word 'Hero'. To me a guy walking along the street who rushes into a burning building to save someone is a hero etc, also includes but not as much someone who after months and months of training acts without thinking and does heroic things and definately not someone who has just been killed without actaully doing anything heroic first.
I think this thread has taken a turn for the worse, but I want to state I am sad about every death in the forces, no-one should die at work, not army, not police, not fireman, not people getting run over by forklifts, or people falling off buildings. My main objection is this automatic title of hero just to the armed forces.
And THAT is my main point, people were arguing they should all be seen as heroes...i was arguing that in many cases they are not, they are just people doing their job, in a lot of cases because they didn't have much better to do.
For one, I would rather not work with someone how I know to have killed someone...and not regretted it. I think that is fair to say.
