If he's a 'youngster' in his early 40's, double jabbed with a booster, he has a very good chance of just suffering symptoms similar to a cold at worse. Fingers crossed for him although I don't think he'll need it.

Why not? Not all of them guarantee 100% immunity. What most of them can do is give initial immunity and a fighting chance of not dying if you catch it providing you don't have any underlying heath problems. A flu jab is yearly. A tetanus jab needs repeating as do many others including covid 19. I don't think you quite get the concept of vaccines.
