I dont think it will be as many as we are led to believe, and the majority of the british troops who get pulled back fro Iraq, will go home for a spot of R&R then sent to afghanastan

One of my family members is going out again to Iraq next month, third time, I have spoken to him about it, and he says, that they will still be sending our troops out, or to Afghanatan.

well, apart from all the other bo-lax I put on this site........I fully support our Troops, and never more than now has the phrase"lions led by Donkeys " been appropriate.........Sincere wishes to you and yours.

i though Afghanastan was a war by the the world on terror and all our friends were going to help  except the french, and the gerrys who like to talk but do fu##all ;) the french foreign legion my ar## :) so is the west about to let the afghan's go it alone

Can a war on an abstract noun be successful?

i think so john , the people of afghanastan want it, so the west should help
we should also buy all there poppys to cut the war on drugs that would also help the west i think but i could be wrong

About time! now all they need to do is remember where the hell they buried all those WMD's

but how can a war in Afgan put an end to "terror"?

It won't for example affect the IRA providing bomb-making training to their business associates in the Colombian drugs export trade.

if the people get the country back they can move on into he 21first century, thats there terror over ;) the drugs war is for all Nations to deal with, why not make all people take responsible for there own actions and legalize drugs  people will die just like they do on drink ,walk on fells, riding bikes or driving thats life or in some cases death :( give them the info & let them make there choices:cool:

The trouble with legalising drugs is its hard to collect the tax on them.

you mean IRA terrorism will end if a bunch of UK citizens are forced to become citizens of a foreign country?

so if the other bunch start up their own terrorism in a futile attempt to reverse the action, how will that cause "terror" to end?

What about Middle East terrorism? How can that be affected by a war in Afhan?

How about FARC terrorism? That's in South America

Does the Lords Resistance Army care about Afgan?

John's point is that you can't fight terrorists using military might.
Vietcong, IRA, Taliban, ETA, Al-Qaida; take your pick, it_just_does_not_work.
The army is only effective against other armies in order to force their government to capitulate. WW1, WW2, The Falklands, Gulf War 1 etc etc prove that we can win 'wars', but the war on terror is an oxymoron.

furthermore, it makes it worse :(

The Taliban, I'm told, isn't an organisation.

It's just a collective noun for people who have a gun and don't like you.

If you kill one of them, his six brothers, his seven uncles, his father, his two sons and his twenty-four cousins won't like you. And they all have guns.

Nazi reprisals in occupied Europe didn't put a stop to resistance; they strengthened it and drove it further undergound. just waiting for a chance of revenge.
