If your referring to me Bamber i'm not sticking up for you. You have made a mistake in Iraq and you are going to loose because you have no political or military solution to the problem you have caused there. Iraq is begining to break up along traditional fault lines between Suni, Shia and Kurd and your government failed to anticipate the probability of an uncontrollable civil war which is now breaking out. Iran will end up as the dominant regional power and America will loose out. China is likely to be the main strategic winner as it's industrialisation accelerates and it's need for oil grows it is likely to strike a better deal than America with Iran

I think people have a simplistic attitude to the question of oil. The "you only invade countries for their oil" line is regularily trotted out ignoring the fact that oil is fundamental to our survival as a modern society and that they easiest way to secure a countries oil is to buy it.

America has shown no compunction in the past in supporting client states that ignore basic human values so there was no reason to invade Iraq bearing in mind that Saddam would have been more than happy to sell cheap oil in return for a free hand in his own backyard.

What has happened is that after 9/11 America has realised that states in this area represent a long term existential threat to it's superpower status and has tried to do something about it by inserting a democratic regime into the area in the hope of securing a domino effect with neighbouring states like Syria. The logic is that this will have twin benefits. A long term solution to the Middle eastern conflict and stabilisation of the oil economy. None of which appears to be working

Well then, which part of my post, that you described as "meaningless drivel", could be described as "having no meaning"?

North Americans are not a race, that is total rubbish, they are a nation encompassing many races creeds and cultures.

If they were not a race, then my assertion that they are cannot be described as total rubbish, since it's a meaningful postulate that could easily (or, if you know anything of me, then certainly) be corroborated by a well known reference source.

If you haven't yet looked up the word "race" in a dictionary, I expcet that you'll find it an educational experience.

Quite happy to be corrected, but I thought that n'est pas meant "is it not" it's certainly what my French girlfriend used to say to me.

I'm afraid it's not. Or, if it is, it would not have sounded the same - in "n'est pas" the 'st' is silent.

I considered staying out of it, but the lesser of two evils seemed to be to post my opinion about the childish idiocy of the racist slanging match, coming as it does before the hopes of England's most popular sports team are cold in their grave, in a competition whose organiser's banner was "Say No to Racism".

Anything useful to say about racism Agile? Do you think it exists? Do you think it's a bad thing? Is it possible to eradicate it? How could it be done? Do you have children? Have you raised them to be non-racist and to promote equality of all races?
