Especially retailers and especially your date of birth where it is not strictly required, only desired. They want it because they want to know what age brackets their customers fall into.

And while I'm at it, let's have a whinge about all these retailers who insist you sign up for a card without which you will not get the best prices.

Of course, as part of the sign-up process, they demand your D-o-B.

Customer details with a DoB increase the value of the data by a factor of about 5. The Ts & Cs normally allow them to "share" your data with "carefully selected partners".

That translated to we will upload the data on to a DMP and allow others to buy access to it.
