We need to get part of our house re-tiled. I am considering Sandtoft Rivius aluvial clay effect slate effect tiles.

Putting price and labour aside what are the advantages of interlocking tiles? Are you less likely to lose tiles in the future if they are interlocking?

Many thanks for the help...

Weight (?), shorter life than clay, appearance (uneven fading, moss, surface wear), grit in gutter. Probably more

But mainly, interlocking tiles do let water through so rely more on the sarking felt than a clay or slate roof. And if the runner/interlock breaks, you tend not to see it.

One advantage of interlocking tiles is that some types can be used on a very low pitch.

Agrees with stuart45 some interlocking tiles can go down to 12.5 deg otherwise no major advatage either way.

Just a tech point Woody, the rivius is a clay tile made to lookl like slate(ish)

 LOL

Oh!

The advantages of clay with the disadvantages of interlocking?

Or the advantages of [looking like] slate with the disadvantages of clay and interlocking?

They do look nice though, I must admit
