The wrong word is "is". It should be "isn't". What do I win?"Cardiff is the capital of Scotland"
Which is the wrong word? I bet you cannot guess correctly at the first attempt.

There's very probably nothing wrong with the existing DETA switch, which is obviously just a standard 'mechanical' intermediate switch.Surely if the original DETA was OK all the OP needs to do is buy a new DETA intermediate from somewhere like CEF. There are other suppliers and other brands.
You may be correct, at least you haven't invoked quantum superposition.The wrong word is "is". It should be "isn't". What do I win?
* Envy"Cardiff is the * of Scotland"
Indeed. As, between us, we have pointed out, other than (probably!) "the" and "of", it could be said that any of the words in EFLI's sentence might be 'the wrong one' - i.e. by changing any one of those words appropriately, the sentence could become 'correct'!You may be correct, at least you haven't invoked quantum superposition. But I still might go for any of the following :
* Envy
* Antithesis
* Archenemy
It is not an intermediate switch; it is a two-gang two-way switch.
I suppose all that is true, but ...That is true if there are two switch rockers on the front.
If it has only one rocker that operates both switches then it can be wired to act as a intermediate switch ( requires two links to be added )
That is theoretically true, but if it were as you suggest, then it would be the electrical accessory with DPDT functionality which I could often have made use of but have spent decades looking for without successThat is true if there are two switch rockers on the front. He could, but although I'm not really a betting man, I think I'd put a fair bit of money on what the front looks like - if not, all my years/decades of looking for a DPDT 'standard electrical accessory' (not including massive DP 'Changeover Switches') will have eventually come to a satisfactory conclusion@Headtotoes You could prevent a lot of bickering by showing a picture of the front of the new switch.
Commonality and cost saving.That just leaves one question: Why?
Yes, but more so the other way round.Commonality and cost saving.
Ok. Like lots of others.Trendi use a common backplate that they slot modules into. The switches clip onto the front.
You mean - why create a unique one-way or two-way switch when ONE standard intermediate will do?Why would you need to create a unique intermediate module, when two standard 2-way modules will do
I don't follow the logic.- and then you make the electrician do the work.
The OPs intermediate isn't modular in the same way, but it will save money by using the standard two gang 2-way switches, with a 1-gang front plate.
