Hi all so I have an internal door with lost keys.. And the lock in "lock position"....

I just want the quickest cheapest way to resolve this so I have a closing door..

As its locked I have tried to take off the handle but it won't.. I messaged a locksmith who wanted around £140 +to remove and change lock which seems insane as a new door is less than half the price

Any ideas welcome

You seem to have removed the handles, and the square bar, linking between them, plus the two screws top and bottom, of the lock - so it should just slide out of the socket in the door. Either paint holding it, or it's just tight in the pocket.

Remove the screws from the door knobs and remove the knobs and the square bar. Insert a screwdriver or punch in the hole for the door knob at about the 9 o’clock position and give it a good clout with a hammer to encourage it to slide out. Replace with a suitable latch mechanism.

No evidence of handle removal.
Are there grub screws holding on the handles.?

I agree. Your text says you have not taken the handles off. Please photograph both the handles from above, below, front, back, and the round roses where they fasten to the door. Close photos, in focus and well lit so we can see the detail.

Your second photo appears to show a keyhole in the door that does not align to the keyhole in the door. This, plus the poor fit of the fore-end, shows that a replacement lock has been put in that is a poor fit to the mortise.

Once you have got it out, we can explain the measurements to take, precisely, to get a lock that is a good fit. You may already have suck locks in other doors in the house.

As per @Old Salt 's post. With the handles removed and the square profile spindle out, put a screwdriver in the spindle hole and hit it from the hinge side to the opposite side. The lock should then move enough to pull it out.

If you are not bothered about being able to use a key anymore, you can probably undo the the screws that hold the lock together and physically remove the mortice bolt (and levers), then refit.
