Maybe something that is at least remotely relevant to the context of electrical/electronic components/equipment?Well, you have quoted two such examples which verify what I have said. What more need be said?
Kind Regards, John

You didn't, so it's us that need to be sorry, which I am. This particular 'war' started here years ago, but re-awakens every time someone mentions transformers! I'll move any more of the war away from here!Sorry to have started this war.
I try to avoid the things (whatever they are called) as much as possible, so have limited experience and am therefore not of much use to you. When I do use them, I tend to use Aurora, which are a very reputable (and, in my experience, very reliable), but not very cheap, make -= and who produce a wide range of 'these things' .I just wanted to know a reliable brand for a transformer or whatever the scientist call it...

However, as has been said, before you buy anything, of any make, you need to know the exact specification of what your light fitting requires.

I will reply in a new thread. Why? If someone uses the word to refer to other than AC to AC, people will just say it is wrong, but how can it be? ... It will have transformed the voltage in some way.
No problem, we've all "been there". I'm glad you have found a very simple solution! Thanks for all your help. .... Eventually there was a "transformer" (sorry if it's called something else) at the bottom of the polystyrene box. ... A simple plug in pre-wired thing. ... Sorry to have caused havoc.
Thanks for all your help.
