Hamas are cowards hiding behind innocent people...

Its known as asymmetric warfare.
It is as old as the hills.
The Russian partisans in WW2 didnt wear uniforms when they attacked the Nazi occupiers.
The Nazis destroyed whole communities in retaliation.
The French resistance did the same and innocent French civilians paid the price.
The Boer war the same, civilian population rounded up and put in camps in order to force surrender of the Boer commandos.
The difference in Israel is that the government insists on encouraging civilians to settle on the edge of a warzone, thus making them targets for angry Palestinians who are constantly being bombarded by remote controlled missiles from miles away in heavily fortified positions.
The above doesn't in any way justify what Hamas is doing but it goes some way to explain their behavior.

The fact Pres. Assad is officially a very, very bad man has nothing to do with it, of course.

I've been reading quite a lot about this geezer, been in an Israeli prison since 2002, to me, and I may be wrong, he might be the sort of bloke who could lead the Palestinians in negotiations with Israel.

It won't happen if Hamas aren't all but wiped out, it won't happen if Netanyahu stays in power, it won't happen without a central govt for West Bank and Gaza.

Should there be a release of Hamas hostages in exchange for Palestinian prisoners of war/political prisoners and Marwan Bargouti is among those freed, there might be a glimmer of hope for the long term.

If he was released, he'd probably be bumped off. Plenty of nutters on both sides
