It's not easy to find an average figure for each special school pupil, but it seems to be around £16,000. Still less than the average private school!
Technically, I should have said 'PRU'. Pupil Referral Unit. They may be different from ‘special schools'. They are like a high security wing of a prison. Well, the one I dealt with was. More staff than pupils. No way would they be getting £16K per student. I was charging them as much, if not more for some students and that was for just two half-day sessions. Actually, not even half-day. 9.30 - 12.00 and 12.30 - 3.00. They all had at least one full time support worker per student that would collect them and take them home. They were on a minimum of £25K p.a. One of them was cabbed from Hertfordshire to Newham on a daily basis!
