I believe many Lebanese people do fear Hesbollah, but also that there are many who sympathise and support them because of whom they oppose.....if the situation in the Middle East were improved, they would have much less support. I do not propose to employ incentive tactics to Hesbollah itself, but the people who might sympathise with them or even join them, their life-blood. Hesbollah is comprises of many people living in Lebanon and to think you can destroy them with bombs alone with all due respect I think is shortsighted. Would you have had the same approach in Ireland with the IRA or in Vietnam with the Vietcong? If you would, surely you could see that this would just strengthen their support. To fight against guerilla opponents is not so simple.

I dont think anyone thinks its acceptable just part of war, sad i know but its a fact of life. You refered to what someone said in a previous post, about dropping a bomb on Omar Bakri. Its a figure of speach, chill out. the amount of times people have said im gonna kill that little blighter when he gets home doesnt mean they are gonna kill them I will put a rocket up his arse doesnt really mean its gonna be done. I do find it difficult to buy into this claim that the USA has a war on terrorism. If this were truly the case it would not have used much of its active military resources to invade Iraq this time around (and just so that you know that I'm not a pacifist, I do think, from what I know of the situation, that the first gulf war was much more justifiable). The link to international terrorism and Iraq is vague. Yes, Sadaam Hussein was a vicious dictator who terrorised his own people and on humanitarian grounds something should have been done about him as well as many other tyrants, but to claim it is in the fight against terrorism is hollow.

Surely, if there was a sincere "war on terror", which is a nebulous notion really, most resources would be devoted to preventing further attacks and to do so one must find out what makes a terrorist.

Do you know how many (the vast majority) of the September 11th hijackers were nationals of one country alone? (It wasn't Iraq, Lebanon or Palestine, by the way)

Why does America not target that country? Even if it were a deliberate ploy by Bin Laden and his organisation in an attempt to tarnish this country, it still shows there are a lot of dissaffected people who can be manipulated to extremes.

In terms of International terrorism Iran was always a more dangerous breeding ground than Iraq, but now the US/UK's ability to diminish this threat has been hurt by their own folly in Iraq.

Syria should've even been ahead of Iraq in a pecking order of rogue states that endanger world safety.

Afghanistan, a major hub of international terrorism, has not transformed, is still an extremely dangerous place, with Bin Laden apparently still at large and more terrorists being indoctrinated and trained there. Similarly, with its border country, Pakistan, there are still terrorist training camps there yet America does not shut them down. Pakistan is one country that actually benefitted from the aftermath of September 11th. At the time it was a rogue state with a dictator who had taken over by military coup, not recognised by most of the world, yet soon after its strategic importance meant millions of dollars poured into the country.

The injustices of the Middle East situation is used by extremists as a recruiting sergeant for would-be terrorists. Resolve this situation, as Sharron actually may have been trying to do with Israel's giving up of the disputed occupied territories, and terrorism would diminish.

The rich and powerful of West and East setting up schools especially for the poor in third world countries could have enormous long-term positive effects. At the moment many parents cannot afford to send their children to traditional schools and instead send them to the much cheaper madrassas (religious schools) which, if not militarily training them, will be more likely to indoctrinate hatred towards the West and so the seeds for future extremists.

There's no getting away from it Israel is killing innocent people in the name of democracy! No one can say it's a justifiable means to an end and Israel are obviously using this conflict as an excuse to exterminate not just the soldiers but civilians too, all they are doing is creating a new generation of people who will fight them and despise them for their actions.

Any civilised country would say enough is enough and strive for a diplomatic solution instead of trying to crush their opponents by any means regardless of cost.

Israel should cease fire today and in a few days if the attack on Israel hasn't stopped then it should appeal to the UN for help no go and try out all their latest technology to see how many people they can kill regardless of whether they are innocent or aggressor.

Shame on the USA and the UK for not stepping in and stopping this bloodshed, makes you ashamed to be a citizen of either of these countries!
