Any of you fellow forumites into keep fit.

The reason I am asking is for some tips on exercising in the home and what is effective.

I do my Bullworker ( remember that folks?) exercises every night but don't really want to become muscley at my age so just want to tone up.

Any ideas?

Sit ups are an easy to tone the stomach. Remember to gradually increase the reps and you'll be doing a 100 in no time.

My doctor said that any activity that made me out of breath would be good for me.

As going from the sofa to the fridge for another beer leaves me panting, I now count this as my daily exercise. ;)

proper sit ups are a big no no these days....people knackering their backs and necks with the strain.... try this...

lie on the floor with your legs up on the bed...so your bottom is against the side of the bed....are you follwing this?....then gently raise your shoulders off the floor....works really well and no strain!!

:D

Don't do sit ups, complete waste of time and not good for you!

For which your evidence is....? And I ain't interested in some mumbo jumbo chiropractic BS.

You cannot build muscle unless you do heavy weightlifting

How, without 'heavy weightlifting', do the majority of the human race manage to build enough muscle to walk, run, swim etc etc? How is anyone (who hasn't performed heavy weightlifting), able to lift anything with their arms?

The majority of us build muscle without ANY 'heavy weightlifting' (there are of course some poor souls with debilitating health conditions that are not able to build muscle).

Of course it's all relative, what you term as 'heavy weightlifting' may be what some are doing for fun.

I rolled a volkswagen jetta once with a guy inside it.
Now thats heavy!
Right over and back unto it wheels and we drove off.
Heaviest dead lift was my Dads Triumph acclaim, lifting the rear off the ground with my little sis on the back seat. :D

He had natural strength had he not?
Jon Paul was the man.

I have been a ardent follower of the same regime and can vouch for it's effectiveness !

to tone up your bottom ... get on floor, on all fours, .stretch one leg out straight, then bring it forward, knee bent...repeat a couple of times, then swap and do the other side...repeat as many times as is comfortable.

for inner thigh and waist....lie on floor on your side...support your head in your hand, on one elbow......raise your leg in a scissor action, slowly, repeat on other side.
