Yes in that the absolute number of pounds you'll pay to the independent will probably be more
No in that youre employing someone whose livelihood depends on giving you a good service rather than someone who gets paid the same regardless of how hard he makes your life. Plus, you get to choose who you work with by buying the service in and compared to the rest of the build costs, your inspector's fee may be a drop in the ocean..
My local council charge around 450, and the independent I want to use is 750.. Even if I can't find somewhere where his real-world-solution approach doesnt save me 300 quid I can't say I'll be fussed considering the cost of building a 4 bed house..
