Kitchen Sockets

Can anyone help please. I was told some year ago by an electrician that here was a strip that you could get to go right along the back of your worktop that acted as a multi socket.

Does anyone know if this product exists and, if so, what is it called, as I have never come across it.

I ripped some out the other day. It was about 3x2" and had sockets every 6inch or so. The sockets where the type used on suspended ceilings for flex drops - Plug in and turn to lock. They had plugs on some appliances, and plug-in adaptors that gave 2 13amp sockets for other appliances.

The hole bar was fed from a 4mm cable, 30amp fuse.

It was installed some time in the early eighties, and now resided in the local tip!

I will try to google it. I can't recall the name of the plugs - but they are used often in shops for flex drops to display cabinets etc.

It wasn't an electrak epos type setup was it?

Thats the ones. It was a long length with sockets spaces every 6" or so though. Where those pics from?? They are not linked directly from the original site?

We have those in our shop. Didnt realise they had integral fuses. I asked the IT guy to give us a 3-pin-plug socket convertor for the electrac sockets so we could plug our new ethernet hub (with wall wart, old one was 230v) into the UPS supply, but he said he'd never heard of them. There was one plugged in in front of him, in use.

I had to do a print screen of the PDF from the electrak site.

We still fit these when specified, but for us it tends to only be for the fancy touch screen tills in pubs.

Thanks very much for all your replies. My predicament is this, I had a kitchen extension built last year, but as we did not have plans for the new kitchen at that time, sockets were only fitted at skirting board height.

I have now decided on the kitchen style, and obviously require sockets at worktop height. All the plastering has been done, and I am really trying to avoid having this chased out.

Could anyone make any suggestions as to what I can have fitted to avoid this. I have seen the pop up counter sockets, but I am not very keen on these.

Any suggestions would be much appreciated.
