Knife wielding immigrant shot by gardai has caused protests because he was shot dead and happened to be black.

It all seems a bit unclear at the moment with some reporting that the police tried all other forms of getting the man to stand down before being shot.

However the fact remains he was wielding a knife threatening the gardai, and was clearly dangerous.

From my point of view I believe the police was right to shoot. However perhaps they could have shot to wound instead of kill, that being said the fact he's dead doesn't make me lose any sleep,,

What's your thoughts?

So it's about mental illness not colour.

Mmm
Only about mental illness I would have said. You would think that in this day and age, the police would be able to subdue a mentally ill person without resorting to lethal force. But if that was truly the only option, then so be it.
How could anyone decide if the police would have reacted differently if the person was not black?
Are there any similar cases involving non-BAME people that have been subdued without resorting to lethal force?

Mentally ill people can still kill someone with a knife, in fact that can make it harder to get them to drop the knife.

As for being shot, the only outcome of that is shoot to kill, once the decision has been taken to used a firearm in defence then a kill shot is the only way to go, a wounded person can still kill someone with a knife.
What are they to do, shoot him in the left arm (potentially missing and hitting someone else) then when he grabs the knife with the right hand shoot that too - perhaps until he is peppered with holes in every extremity ??

If you go against a person with a gun then expect to be shot dead, simples.

His race has nothing to do with it.
However I'm sure that the BLM movement will use this to stir up more sheite!

Would you please say what a "non-BAME" person is?

If you can, would there be a more straightforward word or term that might be used?

Can you not understand what a non-BAME person is?
It is someone who does not associate themselves with being of Black, Asian and/or Minority Ethnic descent.

If there were a series of boxes, some square and some not square. And I asked you to select the ones that were not square, would you ask me to be more specific about which ones I wanted. Would you ask me to allocate a descriptor to those non-square boxes?

Than there us the word associate

Meaning what

You do not actually have to be part of an ethnic group but can be a BAME because u associate yer self with em

Like u himmy

He was mentally ill.
Did you not read the articles?
Family, friends and neighbours claimed Mr Nkencho suffered with mental health problems.

Mental health: Peter Sutcliffe, Ian Brady, Aldof Hitler do you not think they had Mental heath problems..... Anyone who can stick a knife in another human being has problems.... Do you suggest we don't protect ourselves and the public from these nutters.

Yes, but the thread wasn't started because the person was Asian and/or Minority Ethnic descent.

That is precisely the point and is not a valid comparison.
