Large bill after meter was not working

I read my meters every month and send them through.

Then I check the bill for the readings and the prices and pay the DD.
exactly what I do , I also have a spreadsheet where I enter the readings and it calculates the KWh and cost for day rate and consumptions, and produces a total cost for electric / gas , which i check with the BILL
and i check our consumption against previous years month on month as a rough guide, to see how we are tracking
I also note when the meter is read by company - hence why i know the months
also when I say to them , one turned up and read the other week, they just shrug shoulders and say we just get a list of houses and go and read the meters

As said, my meters are read automatically, every 30 minutes by Octopus, but I've kept an annual E, G, and W spreadsheet going for years, just to keep track of my spend. I religiously, and rather pointlessly, read the meters, and update it every Sunday. I've seen my consumption decrease, as I've swapped to LED's, and plasma to LED, and swapped from none condensing old boiler to a condensing, with fancy control system. It has also reflected any measures I have implemented to reduce gas consumption, such as using the living room fire, instead of CH on an evening.

My spreadsheet, also calculates the cost, which was once accurate. Now, as the cost per Kw of my gas and electric vary each day, the calculation is little better than a guide to the maximum cost. When I originally began the spreadsheets, on smart meters, the smart, due to changing suppliers, was off and on so many times, the only thing I could rely upon to be accurate, was my spreadsheets.
