Indeed. When you walk in they will offer a replacement. You simply need to ask for a refund and then purchase a new one, thereby getting another 12 months.
I have no idea about Toolstation. (We don't have them here.) However this is not one of your statutory rights - they are entitled to replace rather than refund.

and they do... by making a refund and selling a new product. AFAIC it's an automatic process. the effect of which is one walks into the store with a faulty unit with say 3 months warranty remaining and a few minutes later one leaves the store with a brand new unit and a full guarantee.
I supose you could demand your rights and not obtain a longer guarantee if you wanted to but I would consider that to be a pathetic arguement.

Comprehension not your strong point. They don't have to refund you. They are perfectly within their rights just to offer a replacement, which does not reset the clock. For whatever reason that is simply the way that the particular trader in question has decided to operate.

If it fails within 30 days they are obliged to offer a refund if requested. If less than 6 months, they can either offer a refund or repair it. 6 to 12 months they can ask you to prove that it was faulty at the point of purchase. No judge would likely argue that a flood light should not last 12 months. I guess that Toolstation deem it cheaper to offer a refund or replacement rather than send it back to the manufacturer. I suspect that they have a contract that allows them to send faulty devices back to their supplier, who in turn possibly returns it to the manufacturer.

At times it can be quite tricky working your comments out and as many of them are critical I tend to veer that way.
Indeed yes they only have to replace but I suspect it simplifies their POS system which is based on selling and buying rather than maintenance. My experience is this has become a very common method of dealing with returns.
